About GeoBoxers

GeoBoxers bring real-life geodata in play – 3D play. We are experts in shaping, transforming and combining geographic data into voxels for use in 3D gaming and visualization platforms. We combine mathematical transformation with extensive geodesy know-how to allow landscapes, cities, mines etc. to unfold in 3D. Our approach and experience opens up new possibilities to introduce the real world in gaming for education, citizen involvement, tourism… and fun.

Inspiration – how to use  GIS and geospatial data in Minecraft.

GeoBoxers is a Danish company founded by Simon Lyngby Kokkendorff, Thorbjørn Nielsen and Nynne Sole Dalå. We are all experts in our own field within the world of geodata. Until spring of 2014 we worked together at the Danish Geodata Agency. We conceived and performed the concept of “Denmark in Minecraft”, including full data processing and technical rollout. To this day it remains the single largest application of geodata for gamification worldwide.

We are experienced professionals within geodesy, surveying, modelling, GIS, programming and handling of all kinds of BIG geospatial data. GeoBoxers’ fields of experiences cover:

“Denmark in Minecraft” is conceived and developed by the team behind GeoBoxers, but project and code is fully owned by the Danish Geodata Agency (Geodatastyrelsen).

While GeoBoxers claims no rights to any code developed for “Denmark in Minecraft”, and will not resell any of this code, any similar data migration or development can be contracted; accelerated by the accumulated learning.  

GeoBoxers business purpose is to apply the team’s expertise and geodata know-how to deliver similar solutions to the world; fast and in high quality.
